Spanish verbs with AR, present tense (A1)

Spanish verbs are divided into three main groups according to their endings -AR, -ER, or -IR.  The Spanish verbs with -AR are the most significant category, accounting for around 80% of all verbs in Spanish, and the good news is that most of them are regular. To conjugate these verbs, remove the ending (-ar) and add the corresponding termination according to the subject pronoun (yo, tú, él, usted...)

 

Forming verbs ending in AR

In Spanish, verb endings are essential because subject pronouns often don’t appear along with the verbs. Look at some examples:

Carmen habla español (Carmen speaks Spanish).

Trabajo en una escuela (I work in an school).

¿Estudias aquí? (Do you study here?)

Cenamos a las 20:00 (We have dinner at 8:00).

Escuchan las noticias en la radio (They listen to the news on the radio).
